William Balfour, 27, was formally charged in the murders of Jennifer Hudson’s mother Darnell Donerson, 57, brother Jason Hudson, 29, and nephew Julian King. William Balfour is the estranged husband of Jennifer Hudson’s sister, Julia. Julian King, 7, who was reported as missing for three days body was discovered later in an abandoned SUV.

The Grammy Award winning singer lost her mother and brother on October 24th, 2008, when their bodies were discovered in their home in Chicago.

Balfour, who has been detained since the murders and was previously being held as a person of suspicion, was later transferred to the Stateville Correctional Center allegedly due to violating his parole. Since Balfour is being charged with the murders, he has now been placed back into police custody at the Cook County jail.

Balfour was charged at noon with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of home invasion in connection with the deaths of Darnell Donerson, Jason Hudson and Julian King.

Chicago Police Deputy Supertintendent Steve Peterson states that the family played a major role in bringing the case to an end.

The Hudson family is stated to have had been “a key partner” in the investigation, assisting in establishing a timeline of events and other parts of the investigation.

“we’d rather not say at this time… We don’t want to delve too deeply into what was done with the family members,” Peterson said.

As far as Balfour’s alleged parole violations, that case has been rescheduled for December 10.
