
He’s the wizard alright, the wizard of the Movie Box Office. Just one day after releasing “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” has already casted a spell at the box office, earning more than $44.8 million dollars which is the best single-day gross ever for a movie on a Wednesday, according to figures released. The figure includes $12 million in ticket sales for screenings that started Tuesday night, at midnight.
“Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” movie premiered on 2,311 screens around the country at midnight, according to Encino-based box office tracker Media By Numbers. The movie knocked “Transformers” out-of-the-box which collected 8.8 million dollars at 3,050 preview screenings on July 2 and then 27.4 million on July 3. Harry Potter also earned almost a half million dollars at midnight IMAX screenings alone, out-doing IMAX’s own record by 10 percent according to Media By Numbers reports.
